Tomato sauce, especially the homemade, has many benefits for our health. The experts who attended the science symposium in 2007, in New York says that foods derived from processed tomatoes can reduce the risk of harmful degenerative diseases, such as the following.

- Protect your lungs
Research conducted by Drs Lenore Arab and Michael Madden of the University of California revealed that tomatoes can increase likopena levels in the blood. Likopena serves to protect our lungs from free radicals.

- Reducing the risk of cataracts
Frederick Khachik, Ph.D., of the University of Maryland says that a carotenoid substances in the tomato sauce can protect our eyes from age and free radicals. Two types of carotenoids that serve to protect the eye are lutein and zeaksantin.

- Lowering cholesterol
Research conducted by Dr. Sohvi Horkko from the University of Oulu, Finland, revealed that tomato sauce could lower cholesterol levels. Twenty-one volunteers were asked to consume 30 mg of tomato sauce and 400 ml of tomato juice for 3 weeks. As a result, their cholesterol levels fell by 13 percent. Low cholesterol levels, diabetes risk will also be reduced.
